Paypal?

Why would a seller refuse payment by Paypal?|||Many sellers don't take paypal. It's purely a matter of choice.|||Taking payment through Paypal is expensive for a seller - there is a flat fee plus a percentage of the auction price. Also, there is a risk to the seller that the payment could be reversed. Some sellers cannot afford the fees nor do they want to take the risk.|||Some sellers don't like the idea, that they have to be responsible to the buyer. With Paypal, if the buyer doesn't get their item, they can get their money back. If the item is not what was described or arrives damaged, the buyer can get their money back. Some sellers don't like that idea. They feel that the buyers should kiss the ground they walk on. Simple solution.... If they don't accept Paypal, go elsewhere. Life is what happens to you, while you're busy making other plans When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace - Jimi Hendrix|||Thanks, myboardid. I didn't realize sellers paid a fee for Paypal, making it a lot like taking credit cards.|||Granted that there are shady sellers that won't take paypal; there are also reputable sellers that won't. While most of the buyers are decent and honest people, unfortunately, there are dishonest buyers too. If you have accepted paypal and the buyer sends back a different/broken, etc item you have little recourse. Buyers can generally select good sellers based on a long history of feedback but the seller cannot really pick and choose his buyers. Seller protection isn't very good through paypal and there are legitimate reasons to have your own merchant account or not accept credit cards at all if you are not an actual retail business that expects the problems as a normal cost of doing business.|||Some sellers don't like the idea, that they have to be responsible to the buyer. Let's once again remind all the new ebayers that ebay hated paypal for years. Ebay finally could not get rid of paypal, so ebay bought paypal. Now paypal is wonderful and pushed upon buyers so ebay makes more money. For years, everyone used checks and money orders just fine and there are still many wonderful sellers who choose not to use paypal for MANY reasons. NONE having to do with wanting to scam a buyer. With Paypal, if the buyer doesn't get their item, they can get their money back. If the item is not what was described or arrives damaged, the buyer can get their money back. No, again not true. The buyer has to usually show just cause for wanting a refund and there is a process to go through including returning the item in the condition the buyer got it in. It doesn't always end up in buyer's favor. Check the boards and you will find many threads supporting this. Some sellers don't like that idea. Many sellers do not like the amount of fraudulent chargebacks. Fact is, the rate of fake chargebacks with paypal and credit cards is extremely high compared to scamming sellers. This is definitely ONE of the main reasons to not take paypal. Fees, lack of safety to the seller, and paypal's unbalanced history are just a few of the LEGIT reasons to not use it. Rude..brutally honest...rude...brutally honest... eBay is like a potluck...the table just does not need another macaroni salad...|||RE: Taking payment through Paypal is expensive for a seller - there is a flat fee plus a percentage of the auction price. Not quite... The percentage is on the TOTAL amount that goes thru PP. Total item price including any s/h.|||And some sellers accept paypal but not unconfirmed payments which can can be denied if a buyer tries to pay with an unconfirmed address. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.|||paypal is cheap compared to the costs of actual merchant processing, especially for many of the small-time sellers on ebay.|||#6 You just don't get it do you? There is NO wonderful sellers on Ebay that do not take PP as a payment option. You can only be average at best> To be a wonderful seller you have decrease the buyers vulnerability in the purchase and not just assume you are wonderful simply because you are able to sell to people who are clueless or don't care about the risks of buying> Wonderful sellers eliminate the risk of buying online before I buy. No PP to risky, end of story>|||Why ! Here is a couple reasons why.... Paypal has a new policy that holds the sellers funds for as long as they want and most sellers hate Paypal keeping their money when they pack, and ship their item off with no payment in the bank... A store does not let you leave with a product then the customer decides that they don't want to pay you for the product... They do not protect the SELLERS who are the backbone of their income. They make no money from buyers. They make extra income form the interest they collect on holding the sellers funds on top of the high fees they charge. Sellers are forced to use Paypal ! I was forced to after 10 years of business on Ebay... It is a monopoly. Sellers cannot take checks or money orders now. The policy is dictated by Ebay & we are forced to take ONLY PAYPAL ! This is like being held up at gunpoint because we use Ebay to sell.. I am done selling anything on Ebay. It is slow, and the fees keep going up.. They just increased the basic buy it now fee to list a book from 15 cents to 50 cents.... It is ludicrous.||||||Before anyone else responds to this thread, take a look at the date of the OP.|||LOL! I saw that from the original post and was thinking the same thing!
