Seller backed out! What's next?

Hi A week ago I got interested by some fishing lures from a seller that lives 5 miles away from me. I contacted him and asked if I happened to be the winner if I could pick up since we were so close. He replied within minutes and said I could pick up and save shipping, no problems. I did "buy it now" on his auction and it's been a week and he doesn't answer my emails via Ebay. This guy has zero feedback. I honestly don't care if he changed his mind, there are more lures to bid on Ebay. What I am worried is if he fills a non paying bidder with Ebay. What would you do? I do understand something could have happened to this seller like an accident or something but I doubt it. He has nothing else for sale. Thanks Patrick|||regardless of whether you are picking them up or not you should still pay via pay pal to protect yourself. You can request an invoice from him with the shipping revision. But if he does not respond yet again, I would just pay the invoice with the shipping. I would imagine the shipping for the lures can't be that much. Then just hope that he gets back to you and issues you a shipping refund. It is his feedback at risk here..... Then, in the meantime if he doesn't get back to you or ship them, file an INR after a few weeks. If he is unable to prove they were shipped or picked up, ebay/pay pal will issue you a refund....|||Use this link to pull the seller's contact information and give them a call. Link Agree, pay for your item via Paypal (funding source a credit card) and you can eliminate the posability of the new seller filing the UID in 4 days post auction. Sellers can now, file the UID 4 days post auction. If you get no response from phoning and paying , then just file the Non Performing Seller report Link If the seller is not available for the pre arranged Local Pick up, then file the INR with Paypal after 10 business days after payment has been made.|||New or low seller feedback is subject to Paypal's 21 day hold of the buyer's payment, until the seller provides proof of delivery OR the buyer leaves Positive feedback (only leave ps FB if the item was received in good order) OR the 21 days has expired.|||I disagree 100%. The seller dos not have to take Paypal for local pick up. In fact it is not a good thing for a seller to take Paypal for local pick up.|||Any educated buyer knows you never accept paypal for local pickup, Cash only, no exceptions.|||I disagree 100%. The seller dos not have to take Paypal for local pick up. In fact it is not a good thing for a seller to take Paypal for local pick up. Of course the seller doesn't have to take pay pal, but as protection on both ends a pay pal transaction is wise. The buyer could pick up the item then file an INR stating they didn't receive the item seeing that there was no DC to back this up. Who do you think would win? The BUYER!! Then the buyer would have the item and pay pal would still take money back from the seller. FAWN, why do you say it is NOT a good idea for a seller to take Pay pal for a local pickup....EVERYTHING should be in black and white.....Especially in this instance seeing that the listing is with shipping and not local pick up... Any educated buyer knows you never accept paypal for local pickup, Cash only, no exceptions. What is your reasoning behind this comic? I as a buyer would want proof that I paid via pay pal. What if something goes wrong when you get the item home. You are no longer protected for a return....|||I suggested the OP just go ahead and pay via Paypal , as that is the ONLY way and proof Ebay will accept as proof of payment for a UID filed. Ebay requires proof via one of the accepted payments methods Link to avoid a UID strike on the buyer, which can be filed 4 days post auction. Sellers should not accept Paypal for a Local Pick up as there would be no D/C to prove delivery. If this seller agreed to a local pick up and payment via Paypal as indicated by the OP, calling the seller is the way to go. The Op should just go ahead and pay .|||"What is your reasoning behind this comic? I as a buyer would want proof that I paid via pay pal. What if something goes wrong when you get the item home. You are no longer protected for a return...." A buyer could pay via Paypal , pick up the item and then file a INR. Buyer would win since no required D/C will be available for the seller to dispute the INR filed by a buyer for a local pick up. If doing a local Pick Up , paying cash there is no recourse for a refund for the buyer via Ebay or Paypal's Buyer Protection.|||Hi I certainly appreciate all the help on the matter.I did learn a lot from this thread. The seller finally contacted me after the request for the invoice was sent. He blamed personal problems and said we can meet tomorrow. I won't ask him anything about his problems (True or not), will grab my stuff, say thanks and go. Thanks again for all the kind help. Patrick|||Sellers should not accept Paypal for a Local Pick up as there would be no D/C to prove delivery. Totally agreed, but my point is pertaining to this particular instance. The listing had a shipping method and shipping price. It was not listed as a pick up only, therefore as proof of payment this is why the buyer should pay via pay pal....The seller could claim non payment because his listing didn't say PU only....I know, sounds confusing.|||]Sellers should not accept Paypal for a Local Pick up as there would be no D/C to prove delivery. Looks like sellers should not accept paypal but buyers should insist on paypal even on local pickups. What about my scenario: I just bought an item 100 miles away that's listed as having a 7 day return period and a standard Ebay written used description (why cant they let the seller write this. It uses a std description of the used item saying it might have been a return and is fully functional. The seller (with 0 feedback but 40 recently listed items) states in an email that they don't know if it works or not and it was bought at an auction and is being sold as is. This is despite no mention of as is in the listing and a 7 day return offered on all their items). The item weighs 500 pounds and while freight is listed on the aucrion the seller said I can pick it up. I intend to test it to see if it works and if not return it. To insure the seller takes it back I will pay with Paypal, not being comfortable with the conflict between what they say and what is in the ad. By the way the email was from an employee not the owner. So on a in person transaction there should be something written out where the seller signs something saying the item is received. I don't know what proof is needed from paypal that a return is made since its not being shipped by mail in the event the seller says they're not going to take it back. Bring a camera with you to show the item being pushed off your truck in front of the seller. Too many rules and exceptions to keep up with.|||If you pay w paypal you will have to proof with online viewable delivery confirmation(signature if $250 or more)that the item was returned. So you will have to pay to ship it back should you returnIt may not be your fault but it is your responsibility Silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you"|||should say Prove or have proof viaIt may not be your fault but it is your responsibility Silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you"|||I don't know what proof is needed from paypal that a return is made since its not being shipped by mail in the event the seller says they're not going to take it back. Bring a camera with you to show the item being pushed off your truck in front of the seller. lol, you'll have to have tracking that's viewible online for eBay/pay pal to refund. so shipping that 500 lb item might cost more than it's worth. but you'll have to ship it back with tracking to recover any $ . as to paying with pay pal for pickup items , no seller will accept it if they have read the conditions of seller protection. nothing signed at the time of an in person sale is going to help either party with pay pal / eBay. it might in a small claims court .

WHY WON'T EBAY ALLOW ME TO ACCEPT MONEY ORDERS

It's really frustrating. DO THEY GET A KICK BACK from Paypal? If I want to sell something, I want the buyer to have EVERY option of payment.|||Ebay OWNS Paypal. And they want every $$ they can get. Simple as that, sorry. (But, you CAN accept them, you just can't ask for them.) ~James~~James~|||This is why: Link Link Link Link Link It's too easy for sellers to scam buyers with paper payments. There were also too many buyers who chose to pay with unsafe payments then screamed at eBay because they wouldn't protect them.|||For the overwhelming vast majority of people who used money orders, everything went fine. There would be as in everything, someone who wants to pull some scam. Unfortunately, eBay while not being able to do anything about money orders does assist the scammers using Paypal. As a good solid seller accepting money orders eBay has put you into the position of being scammed.|||email4... As snowfeather has pointed out there have been some scammers who take the money and run. To get around that I put "paypal and other payments acepted, contact me" in my descriptions. Befor accepting paper payments from a buyer, check their FBs, a higher number is better, and their length of membership. Let them know you will not ship until the MO/check clears. The best you can do within policy is invite buyers to contact you if they have any questions (without mentioning payments specifically) Ebay's stealth policy of "accept, but don't tell" is really annoying to us who see it as yet another dip into seller's pockets. I can see the need to offer electronic payments on an internet site, I can't see the justification to do everything in ebay's power to convince both buyers and sellers that money orders are forbidden, but not really. What your links show, in addition to the reasons why ebay wants safe payments, is that despite all its efforts to manipulate people into safe payment methods, people still get scammed. Since its clear people can't be protected from themselves by ebays actions, ebay should instead put an advisory on every auction about the relative safety of different payment methods, let the seller offer any payment method he wants, and let the buyer decide if that's acceptable. The linked scams aren't particularly artful or creative. You'd assume anyone smart enough to have that much money to spend on ebay would be smart enough to not fall for these scams. Ebay's attitude should be "we provided a safe money transfer method, we advised on the relative safety of money transfer methods, and that is all we can reasonably do". I am a Bomb Technician If you see me running, try to keep up!|||Have the question posted on the "Questions from other members" below the auction subject page. I had actually considered doing this (and patted myself on the back for thinking of it!) but then I found out that Ebay thought of it first. It states explicitly that you are allowed to ansewr the buyer with an affirmative, but you are not allowed to put that question and answer in your auction. Ebay really spent a lot of time predicting ways we would try to get around this and then cutting us off at the pass.Don't you mess with aly*baby's...|||any method of payment is a possible way to rip people off.. even money orders are being collected by sellers and then being claimed as not recieved. They can cash them and still claim it wasn't them and the post office will not refund the money.. leaving the seller in good standing with ebay and allowing them to relist the same items to sell again and again... there is no safe method when of sending or recieving money online. Its part of the risk we all take when conducting business online.|||I also think that ebay wants to oversee all transactions. People may try to drive up the auction prices buy using another account to bid on their own items to make other bidders increase their bid. However, if other bidders do not comply and overbid the seller than the seller is stuck paying for his/her own item. Using a Money order as a payment option the seller can claim that the item was paid for and not actually have to pay. If the seller has to use electronic payment options like credit cards and paypal this means that he/she would have to make the payment to actually confirm payment is complete thus allowing ebay to monitor people who are cheating by driving up their own bids using different accounts. This is just one theory, I'm sure there is more than just one reason why ebay doesn't allow Money Orders. However, all you really have to do is just ask the seller. It's just that the seller cannot advertise Money orders as a payment option.|||"I also think that ebay wants to oversee all transactions. I have never heard of a conspiracy theory involving a shill bidder actually winning his own item and then using the "Marked as Payment Sent" to thwart or bypass the electronic payment system. Them shillers sure are jumping thru a lot of hoops now aren't they? Of course, that theory is shot out of the water in the last part of your post which admits the ebay does allow for the use of MOs and therefore negates using the 'payment sent' option as a shilling tool. ~James~~James~

purchaser not paying for an item

Need help with "condition"

I am searching through the video game category and am having difficulty choosing a "condition". I used to be able to narrow it down by picking "Brand new, Like new, Very good, Good, Acceptable" but now I am only able to choose from "New, Used and unspecified". Does anyone know how I can get it back to the way it was when I used to be able to pick from 5 categories of conditions? Thanks.|||I see you have a Very Good on your Batman game. When I list games I like to check what others are listing them for so for batman for instance I will search for batman, click "buy it now only" and click "Price + shipping lowest first". Then I will click "very good" so that I can see how other sellers are pricing Batman in Very good condition. The problem is now when I try and search for a game I am only given "New, used and unspecified" at the side tab. I can no longer narrow it down to "very good" condition only. Everything rated Like new to Acceptable is lumped together as "Used", and that is ridiculous(and I just realized it's the same in my main selling category of DVD's and while I know it will do no good I intend to raise hell about it. I would have waited longer but the conflicting stories about shipping and the lack of repsonse to my last message tells me that something is fishy here. Since I have not had to take a step like this before, I welcome any feedback.||||||

Paypal?

Why would a seller refuse payment by Paypal?|||Many sellers don't take paypal. It's purely a matter of choice.|||Taking payment through Paypal is expensive for a seller - there is a flat fee plus a percentage of the auction price. Also, there is a risk to the seller that the payment could be reversed. Some sellers cannot afford the fees nor do they want to take the risk.|||Some sellers don't like the idea, that they have to be responsible to the buyer. With Paypal, if the buyer doesn't get their item, they can get their money back. If the item is not what was described or arrives damaged, the buyer can get their money back. Some sellers don't like that idea. They feel that the buyers should kiss the ground they walk on. Simple solution.... If they don't accept Paypal, go elsewhere. Life is what happens to you, while you're busy making other plans When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace - Jimi Hendrix|||Thanks, myboardid. I didn't realize sellers paid a fee for Paypal, making it a lot like taking credit cards.|||Granted that there are shady sellers that won't take paypal; there are also reputable sellers that won't. While most of the buyers are decent and honest people, unfortunately, there are dishonest buyers too. If you have accepted paypal and the buyer sends back a different/broken, etc item you have little recourse. Buyers can generally select good sellers based on a long history of feedback but the seller cannot really pick and choose his buyers. Seller protection isn't very good through paypal and there are legitimate reasons to have your own merchant account or not accept credit cards at all if you are not an actual retail business that expects the problems as a normal cost of doing business.|||Some sellers don't like the idea, that they have to be responsible to the buyer. Let's once again remind all the new ebayers that ebay hated paypal for years. Ebay finally could not get rid of paypal, so ebay bought paypal. Now paypal is wonderful and pushed upon buyers so ebay makes more money. For years, everyone used checks and money orders just fine and there are still many wonderful sellers who choose not to use paypal for MANY reasons. NONE having to do with wanting to scam a buyer. With Paypal, if the buyer doesn't get their item, they can get their money back. If the item is not what was described or arrives damaged, the buyer can get their money back. No, again not true. The buyer has to usually show just cause for wanting a refund and there is a process to go through including returning the item in the condition the buyer got it in. It doesn't always end up in buyer's favor. Check the boards and you will find many threads supporting this. Some sellers don't like that idea. Many sellers do not like the amount of fraudulent chargebacks. Fact is, the rate of fake chargebacks with paypal and credit cards is extremely high compared to scamming sellers. This is definitely ONE of the main reasons to not take paypal. Fees, lack of safety to the seller, and paypal's unbalanced history are just a few of the LEGIT reasons to not use it. No PP to risky, end of story>|||Why ! Here is a couple reasons why.... Paypal has a new policy that holds the sellers funds for as long as they want and most sellers hate Paypal keeping their money when they pack, and ship their item off with no payment in the bank... A store does not let you leave with a product then the customer decides that they don't want to pay you for the product... They do not protect the SELLERS who are the backbone of their income. They make no money from buyers. They make extra income form the interest they collect on holding the sellers funds on top of the high fees they charge. Sellers are forced to use Paypal ! I was forced to after 10 years of business on Ebay... It is a monopoly. Sellers cannot take checks or money orders now. The policy is dictated by Ebay & we are forced to take ONLY PAYPAL ! This is like being held up at gunpoint because we use Ebay to sell.. I am done selling anything on Ebay. It is slow, and the fees keep going up.. Seller hasn't sent the correct invoice

Before I bid, I asked seller the shipping cost of an item to my country. Seller said it's $1 more for the first item then 50 cents for each additional. So that makes $4 for one item (just light n small item 4"x6"). Usually I pay less than that for the similar items but with different sellers, and I notice from many package that I've received the USPS First class postage cost is actually under $3 for one item. However because one other seller that I usually deal with also charges me $4 for similar item, and because the total cost is still cheap compared to item actual price, so I don't mind. I only won one, but it surprised me that the invoice charges $5 for Shipping cost. When I asked the seller, the person said s/he miscalculated it cause s/he found out from the post office that the shipping cost is higher, but s/he said just pay the amount s/he first told me, and that will be fine. The question: How to pay the correct amount, if seller still hasn't sent me the correct invoice? I have contacted seller 3 times, on the second time seller said that s/he is new to international shipping, so the amounts for shipping not right on seller's end and nothing to do with me. On the third time when I told I decided to bid on that item because the shipping cost is $4, seller just replied "No, problem... thank you". ?? What should I do? Ultimate transaction from hell, no item, excuses, then silence

Just aweful, item isn't all that relevant (a fishing reel), but the experience is worth noting for the wary; 5/31/10 seller counteroffers a best offer, I accept, and pay, noting the priority mail with 2-5 days until receipt. But item tracking doesn't show item being mailed. Two e-mails get no response, I then get his contact info from ebay, call that phone on 6/7/10, and get told by a parent that he left 2 weeks ago and is on a barge off the coast of Nova Scotia. I get told his father will call me tomorrow (never did). But I did get a series of e-mails on that day only from seller, the gist of which was he never had the item - but thought he would get it from a factory. The factory, however, didn't get it to him on time, and that is because their anodizer broke and were waiting for parts, but he would have it mailed to him on wednesday (6/9). Nearly a week more comes and goes, and at least 3 more e-mails (and one more phone call) yield no response (other than his family is able to contact him by e-mail, he just isn't responding to me); and the item tracking shows it still isn't mailed. Finally, I called the factory which seller alleged was expecting item from (a fishing reel), and it IS in stock. Opened case; requested item (NOT refund), in fact, send me item and send me some money back. Ebay said, however, they "don't do" partial refunds; I would need to get the money from him if I want the item, or, pay the full negotiated price. Kinda puts no value on the 3 weeks that I will have waited to get the item, if I ever do, which I doubt. Be true to your listing...your are hurting good ebay sellers

I have made excellent purchases from China, Japan and other international countries. I don’t understand how they can make money at some of the prices items are sold at. The items arrived quickly, packaged well and as described via the listings. However, there are many sellers from China, Japan and other international countries that are truly hurting the GOOD, LIGIT eBay sellers. They are listing items as authentic brands, however when you get it they are modified versions of a name brand and/or counterfeit with the tags from the name brands. I found out the hard way you should ONLY buy event tickets on Ebay if you use a credit card. Because Ebay and Paypal Buyer Protection expires 45 days after you pay for your tickets. If you buy invalid tickets from a dishonest seller for an event that takes place more than 45 days from the purchase date and you cannot get into the event, you are out of luck, because Ebay or Paypal.will NOT help you. Then the hapless buyer is out of luck when they find the tickets are invalid.. Ebay prominently displays the Ebay Buyer Protection for these tickets listings. But they will only provide protection if the buyer doesn't receive the tickets or the tickets they receive don't match the description. Seller intercepted package - why?

After I bought an item, the seller left me positive feedback immediately and requested I leave him feedback ASAP. Then the seller shipped the item and again reminded me to leave feedback ASAP. No seller info in items when delivered

I've never sold anything on ebay yet but I have bought a lot of items in the last 6 years. In fact I'v bought 145 items in the last 45 days. The items I've bought from US sellers have all had something in them to denote who the seller was so I could leave feedback. None of the out of US sellers have done this............... How can I leave feedback for you sellers if I don't know who it came from!!!!!! A couple of Initials scribbled in Chinese on the outside of the envelope or an in house ID number don't give me enough info to leave feedback for the right seller. They can't see from your perspective of one man receiving multiple memory sticks every day and having to sort them out! I bought a Playstation cable here once. I knew who sent it. The guy I bought it from! See? You're going to have to ask them to write the auction number inside or on the box. Not everyone will do it, but if a few do, plus the few that insert a packing slip, then add that to the easy detective work by looking at the unique items or packages with return addresses, and those factors should leave a minimal amount hard to identify to a particular seller. But it won't be that hard because you've already narrowed it down, right? ~James~|||Anytime a buyer has asked me to write the item number on the packaging, I have. No problem. And like I said, I do include a card with my seller name and the item number on it. But sometimes, it has happened, that the card falls out as I'm packaging. A simple auction number/seller user ID would suffice. Thank you , Potential Bidder If you do this and get a reply, great, go ahead and bid. That's an appropriate request to put in a payment note.|||I think it is essential to include a packing slip and a copy of the winning listing with each lot of goods I sell. I am a newby on eBay with 38 years in business so didn't think twice about including the essential paperwork when despatching items. So far, I have purchased one cheap item from China for my granddaughter and the communication was excellent from the time I won the bid to the time I opened the item. The second item was $850 and although the seller was agreed to the pick up time and payment date, communication only happened when I took the initiative. I was truly amazed. The other thing I don't like is sellers/buyers who want to email outside of eBay. I like eBay to have a record of all of my communications in case anything 'goes wrong'. Selling on eBay is a business whether it is an odd item or high volume. I was truly amazed. What other communication did you want? I send a packing slip with all my items but I don't freak out when another seller doesn't. Everybody does things differently, if we didn't life would be awfully boring.|||I'd rather save the ink and paper than print a packing slip. I do include item cards (luckily my DH is a printer ). However, if I sold an item for $850, yeah - I'd probably print up a packing slip for that one! If I get a packing slip, it goes right in the garbage so I view them as junk mail honestly. I don't feel the need to perpetuate more junk mail myself by sending them out. But again, if anyone requests it, I would honor that request without any problem.

Help! I think I've been scammed...

Hello, everyone. I am at my wit's end, and I just don't know what to do. On April 19th, I won an auction for a pre-sale item for $300 that was to be released on May 25th. The whole transaction was very smooth, the seller had good communication, and he had a 99.9% feedback rating (with over 6000 feedbacks). On May 28th, having not received a shipping notice, I talked to the seller about whether he was shipping, and he explained that he was a one man operation and that things had been hectic for him. He assured me he would ship my item the next day. Come June 1st, I finally receive a USPS Priority Mail tracking number for my item, with a notice that the seller has shipped the item. I had talked to the seller previously about whether he was shipping, and he explained that he was a one man operation and that things had been hectic for him. The seller listed his shipping would take 2-3 days, and as of June 5th, I had not received the item. Not only that, but the tracking system still said "Electronic Shipping Info Received". I tried to contact the seller again, and did not receive a response. On June 7th, I left the seller negative feedback. On June 8th, the seller contacted me back, requesting a feedback change. He explained that he had a family emergency, and that he was shipping out my item that day. He said I would receive my order before the weekend, or early the next week. So, here it is June 17th... I have not gotten my item, and the seller now does not respond to emails or phone calls. Unfortunately, eBay does not allow me to dispute the charge, because it's more than 45 days after I paid... which honestly is BS in my opinion, as it was a pre-sale item that was to be released on May 25th. I should have 45 days after May 25th in my situation. What can I do? I'm really worried that I've been ripped off and am out of $300. I have tried to open claims with PayPal and eBay, but again... I'm past the 45 days. I'm really at a loss. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.|||Oh, and I'd also like to note: Back in April, the seller had a 99.9% rating. He has since fallen to 98.8%. I am not the only one being scammed by this guy.|||Did you make your PayPal payment with a credit card? If you did, on the back of your card, there should be a telephone #. Call that number and do a chargeback. If you paid with a debit card, you may be able to do a chargeback, but you'd have to call your bank on that (I think). Some do offer some protection for cases like this; some don't. If you paid from a PayPal balance, or from your bank account, you're probably out of luck. Your seller certainly seems to be racking up some bad FB this past month.|||You might still have 1 day left to NEG him.|||Ebay /Paypal require a seller to ship within 30 days Link Once you allow a seller to string you along ,beyond the 45 days from date of payment filing deadline, you have nobody to blame , but yourself. As stated above, if funded with a credit card, do a chargeback with your card issuer. As a Buyer what is your Criteria while selecting / buying any item ?

Just checking with Buyers to keep update and Match my Selling Criteria. What kind of info you will look into / for seller and Item? " No Spin Zone @ Velly "|||I personally look at the item price, S&H, DSR score and the seller's track record on toolhause of how they conduct themselves with buyers. The Ebay feedback total score % does not tell the whole story.|||I like to know the exact condition of the item. I buy alot of scratch and dent items here, but don't want to find that out when I open the package. For instance, I bought a used Les Paul and the seller said it had 2 dings and some minor polishing swirls. Didn't scare me off, I paid more than I wanted to because I felt I was dealing with an honest seller, but when I got the item it was in far better condition than the description and the pictures represented. I think when a seller lists the true description they are honest and I am bidding with confidence.|||I want to see more than one in focus photo of an item, clear concise detailed description of condition with measurements, price and shipping costs, check seller's feedback on Toolhaus, make sure the item is being stored in a non-smoking enviroment, pay no attention to DSRs. Never buy from sellers who don't answer questions or refer me back to the item description for the condition when the condition only states something benign like nice vintage condition.|||I look at photos, price, S & H cost, feedback score. Nothing makes me hit the back button faster than a nasty seller response, in caps, saying how stupid the buyer is. I'm aware that there are bad buyers. I'm not one of them and don't want to deal with a seller who going to get angry and blame me if there's a problem.|||Right item, right price, right description, right FB...this could take awhile.|||A high quality item description with good photos. For some items the zoom feature is wonderful; handbags are a good example. If I like the item I check out seller fb. For negs, I look to see if there is a trend for a particular problem, but like another poster, I look to how the seller responds to negs. I am looking for cooperation, not blame and excuses. I can also recognize PITA buyers but i don't want a PITA seller. Then I check out S+H. If all this goes well, you are on my watch list. Then I comparison shop. Item quality is the main factor. If items are used I cross compare for state of repair and general condition. I usually think over my options at this point and make a decision. I do like to buy expensive, used items from people who own the item. They are usually upfront and honest about the state of the item. I just got a great deal on a Cartier tank watch this way as well as a Prada handbag. I always check the selling history of the seller to see if they have sold like items or items of equal quality. I may be a bit suspicious if this is your first luxury item after 3 years of selling cheap trinkets. (i do wish eBay went beyond 3 months for item views and prices.) There is a fair bit of intuition that goes into good buying, believe it or not. I don't bid on items where the seller says "no returns" or when the seller includes the cost of insurance with shipping" Sellers are required to include the insurance either in the item price or the S&H. Sellers are no longer allowed as per the Selling Practices policy to offer and charge a separate fee for insurance. Link Whether the seller mentions it or not, insurance is likely built into the price of the item or the s&h. When I see No returns, Only ship to a confirmed address (no such thing anymore) or other such ignorant phrases, it tells me the seller is not familiar with Ebay and or Paypal current policies.|||On the search results page: - First I check the item title and picture to make sure the seller has what I want. If I can't somewhat make out what the item is from the thumbnail, I pass. If the item title and picture don't match, I pass. - Then I look at the price and shipping to see if they are within reason. Too many sellers expect unrealistic prices for their product, especially U.S. sellers. I pass over at least half of the items I would otherwise be interested in due to price. For example, $75 plus shipping for a Billy Biggle plush? C'mon. I could buy one direct from the website and have it shipped for less than a 1/3 of that. I don't care as much about the shipping charge. I just want to see that it's in the ballpark for that item. Of the listings that I actually click into: - I check the seller's feedback. If there are any questions, I check toolhaus. I'm most interested in responses left to any negatives. This tells me what the seller's service is like. - I check the return policy. This also tells me what the seller's service is like. - I read the description. I want to know the condition of the item I'm considering purchasing. I also want to know the terms. If there is too much negativity, I close the tab. A single sentence about non-paying bidders, or something similar, is fine. If there is anything more than that, especially in regards to feedback, PayPal, or eBay in general, I'm gone. I want to know that should any problems arise, the seller will gladly help to correct them, without the need for a dispute being filed. If there are too many policy violations in the description, I'm gone. I don't expect seller's to keep up with every rule change, especially if it's a rule that was just changed. But at least keep up with most of them. If there is any automatically playing music or videos, I close the tab immediately. I'm a night person; so I'm often looking on eBay in the late night hours. There is no need to disrupt other people sleeping in the house just so I can look at a listing. If the description is much longer than a page or so, I close the tab. I'm interested in buying items, not reading a novel or knowing the seller's life story. Unless it is directly related to the item, I don't care why it's being sold. If there are one or two sentences actually describing of the item, yet paragraphs of terms, I'm definitely gone. I don't mind the terms being a bit longer than the description of the item, but keep it reasonable. If everything looks good, I buy, or place a snipe bid. I prefer to simply buy it now, though. Basically what I'm looking for is the right item, at a reasonable price, with decent terms, from a seller with a good track record of service.friends Director,
